Deputy Mayor visits I-AM Istanbul 15th May 2013
We were delighted today to welcome to our studio in Istanbul the UKTI’s trade mission, led by Deputy Mayor of London, Kit Malthouse.
‘i-am’ partners Emre Kuzlu and Jon Blakeney welcomed Kit to our studio and explained the background behind launching ‘i-am’ in Istanbul. ‘i-am’ was chosen by the trade mission as a great example of London-based businesses expanding abroad and flourishing in foreign markets. Emre and Jon explained how the business started with a team of three in 2008 and has now grown to a team of 45 with a turnover of €4 million.
The visit to Istanbul was part of UKTI’s ongoing commitment to helping London-based businesses expand through international sales and development. The delegation included many UK businesses who are keen to explore opportunities in Istanbul, and share the lessons learnt by ‘i-am’.
The ‘i-am’ team also attended a reception hosted by the Deputy Mayor at the British Embassy last night; guests included local Turkish business leaders, London-based UK companies and UKTI representatives.
We are delighted that our Istanbul studio has become a case study and example for other UK businesses wishing to expand abroad. Hopefully in years to come we can also share our learnings about launching a business in Mumbai.
